Open Government & eParticipation Conference in Northern Ireland - 22nd Sept 2011

The theme of the latest Open Island conference held in Belfast on 22nd September was open government & e-participation. Both topics have a growing global following and the Northern Ireland community is no exception. Deirdre Lee (NUI Galway) attended on behalf of Puzzled by Policy. The conference was well-attended, with Tom Kennedy from the Information Strategy and Innovation Division (ISID) giving an overview of the status open government & e-participation in Northern Ireland, and Deb Bryant and Bill Mc Cluggage sharing some lessons from the US and UK respectively. There were demonstrations of participation applications built using open data, for example John Heaven (TUTech Innovation GmbH) presented DEMOS-Plan, the spatial planning consultation software that we have developed together with the local authority in Hamburg. It was great to see such an interest from attendees, many of which worked in public agencies, in engaging citizens – a definite market for the Puzzled by Policy Platform
